Shells galore} Eliza

[Carlie Hale]

Carlie was walking along the beach. She had shorts and a t-shirt on with a windbreaker on. She wore flip flops so she could feel the cold sand if she walked close to the water's edge. Carlie was looking for shells along the shore line. She loved collecting shells, even though there was too many shells at her house.

It was a brisk morning. but it was bound to get in the 70's around lunch time. She only went out in the morning because she wanted to get some shells before the tourists come and step on them or take them.

Eliza was out for a morning stroll. She was too hyper to sleep in even though she could now that school was out. She hadn't bothered to take the car when she left the house. That way Caitlyn could take the car anywhere and not be stuck at the house. It was only a bit of a jog down to the beach and Eliza felt like she needed it, especially eatting half a pizza with Tobias a few days earlier.

As she neared the beach she laughed when she saw her best friend Carlie at the edge of the waves. "Well well well, look who it is." She giggled. "Hey, Carlie!" Her dress swayed in the light breeze as she took off her light green flip flops and ran toward her friend.

She was careful of the shells, one so that she wouldn't crack any and two, to keep from hurting her feet.

Carlie spun around to spot her best friend,Eliza, running toward her. Carlie grinned because she was just so happy to see her. "Hey Eliza!" she said cheerfully. She went over and gave her a hug for she hadn't seen her since school let out. "How are you?" she asked softly. Her bag of shells was at her feet.

"Haven't seen you in a few weeks... " she said teasingly."Anything interesting happened?" She tilted her head to the side, looking at her curiously. Her brown hair fell to the side.The sound of seagulls cawing were overhead.

Eliza laughed and hugged Carlie back. "I know!" She laughed. "You'd think being neighbors we would at least pass each other in the driveway or something." She pulled away from the hug. "I'm alright, Carlie. How are you?"

Yes, she didn't answer the important question... but that one could wait to be answered until they were in a more private area. Eliza ran a hand through her hair and kept her hand tangled in it to keep the strands from flying crazily all over the place.

Carlie grinned and said "yeah but the rents made me go to DC to visit the family for the past week. then i went to Assateague to take pictures.you know... for the yearbook, to get an early start on designing it." She shrugged.

She said "i have been good.just came out here to collect shells... even though you know i have too many shells to begin with." she laughed softly. then she said "You didn't answer my question... " then she asked "is it something that should be kept quiet?" she was too curious. "i mean we can go for a drive and talk about it.. i mean my car is couple blocks away though"

Eliza grinned. "Oooh, I see." She chuckled. Then she put on a sad face and mocked shock and pain. "You went there and started taking pictures without me? Oh... I'm hurt!" A hand was over her heart and the other was at her forehead for a dramatic pose.

She laughed. "Hey, it never hurts to update your collection every so often." Eliza nodded. "And yes. What I have to tell you, I HAVE to tell you! But I can't say it right now. It's a huge secret."

Carlie made a face and said "Sorry. i was going to call you and tell you to come with... but mom took the cell away because i was up way late..." she laughed softly. "I get the cell back tomorrow."

"So True" said Carlie with a small laugh. "Check this out" and she pulled out one of the shells she found. "i think this is the most beautiful shell ever" she grinned about it. then she asked, "want to go to my car and then go and get a donut from FP? we could talk about it in the car. no one will be able to hear it"

Eliza frowned. "Aww! Oh no!" In this day and age it was a hideous torture to go without a cell phone. She grinned. "What time tomorrow are you getting it back? I'll call you right then!" She chuckled. "And to celebrate we can spend all day on the phone."

She smiled at the shell. "Oh! That one is really pretty." The girl nodded. "It's good that you got it before some brat of a kid ran by it and cracked it to pieces." She shrugged. "Well, if you are done with collecting for the day, sure. I'm up for a donut at FP." She grined. "And I have been dying to tell you this news. You are going to flip!"

Carlie laughed and said "OMG yes.. it is tragic" She rolled her eyes.It wasn't like she couldn't go without her phone for extended periods of time... she just preferred not to go without it for long.Thus was happy that she was going to get it back."I am getting it back at 8:00pm. just in time for the unlimited nights and weekends thing."

Carlie laughed and said "yeah i am lucky i guess." then she said "yeah i am done. i have been out here for a half hour." she giggled slightly. then she said "oooh... this sounds interesting. i can't wait to hear about it"

Eliza stuck her tongue out at her friend. "Well I would die without my cell phone." She laughed and started to walk with Carlie back to her car. "Ha! Okay, I am calling you at one minute past eight!" The girl chuckled. She felt like she was about to burst at the seems.

"Oh, by the way, Tobias and I were talking about weekly get togethers with everyone, you know Me, Cait, you, him, Josh, maybe anyone else that wants to come along. We thought it would be fun. You up for it?" Eliza locked arms with Carlie as they walked toward her friends car in the far off distance.

Carlie grinned and said "Oh Yay! i will be awaiting the call" She laughed lightly. "i can live without it, but i choose not to" she jumped in happiness. Then she said "of course i am up for it. I am always up for hanging with you guys." She continued walking along the beach towards the entrance where her car was.

Eliza grinned and again stuck her tongue out at Carlie. "You have more will power than I do." She laughed, having to haold her stomach because she started to laugh so hard. "Awesome! I still have to call everyone else today. So, you're like... the first person to hear about it."

She bit her lip as she started to think about Tobias. It actually might be a bad idea for them to spend more time together... but they were really good friends and just couldn't help it."Soo," She started, trying to think of something to get her mind of Tobias... for the time being anyway. "How was the trip to DC?"

"way cool. i feel honored that i am the first to know. besides you and Tobias." she said brightly. then she said "i just don't talk to too many people on the phone. only you, Tobias,Josh and Caitlyn. and i can just walk out my door and knock on one of you guys's doors if i wanted to talk."

then she said "Oh DC was fun. went to Union Station and did some shopping. got some souvenirs for everyone. but it is at home"

Eliza chuckled. "I woul have otld Caitlyn first but I... well... nevermind." She sighed. Then she laughed at what Carlie said about just knocking on the door. "Oh... well yeah, that's another way to talk." She laughed again. "Oh, or just opening the windows and talking." She smiled. "Remember when we were little and had those walkie talkies and we'd stay up til like three in the morning wearing down the batteries talking on them?"

She smiled. "Oh, cool!" She smiled. "Well, it's good you had fun."

Carlie laughed and said "Oh yes... those were the good old times.well at least simpler eh?" She sighed softly. they were almost to the car. she could see the blue PT Cruiser in the distance. She grinned and said "i can beat you to the car." in a teasing tone. and she started running toward the car.
